This past week, I was on spring break. A high school friend of mine alerted me to a new series on Netflix titled The Residence. I watched the first season this past week.
The 8-episode season revolves around an incredibly intelligent, yet incredibly quirky sleuth named Cordelia Cupp. The wildly eccentric detective is an avid birdwatcher and always makes time, much to the chagrin of the police/FBI/White House staff, to pick up a set of binoculars to catch a glimpse of a rare bird. (The birdwatching is an integral part of the series.)
Cupp methodically interviews each person of interest, which, oddly enough, includes a bunch of Australians (just for you, Steph!). Then, in the final episode, she reveals how she came to know who the killer was before a congressional committee.
I was wondering if anyone else on HBL has watched the show. I absolutely found it entertaining, hilarious at some points, and even captivating. It has a star-studded cast; I’m sure you’ll recognize many of them even as they have aged.
There aren’t too many bad points in the series, except for a quick blink of a hitjob on the rich and political affiliations. But nothing that overtakes the whole premise of the show.
By the way, that high school friend who told me about the show? He’s one of the main actors in the series (Mel Rodriguez). Episode 7 is entirely based on his character and the ever-so-beautiful Julieth Restrepo. There is talk of a second season.
