A two-part intermediate to advanced level course, for those with a good grasp of Objectivism, who want to deepen their understanding of Ayn Rand's ethics and its proof. This extended analysis of her world-shaking 1961 speech reveals the rich underpinnings of her seemingly simple, common-sensical statements.
Course 1 (via video recordings): Paragraphs 1 through 60. Ayn Rand's revolutionary solution to Hume's "Is"-"Ought" problem. The proof that man's survival qua man is the standard of morality. The inductive nature of Rand's method; why and how her proof depends upon her theory of concepts. 14 classes, each 30 minutes, plus Q&A.
Course 2: Paragraphs 61 through 106. This second course covers the Objectivist morality's content: the full meaning of rational selfishness, the seven virtues, the moral basis of laissez-faire capitalism. 12 classes, each 30 minutes, plus Q&A.
