I just read a riveting new crime thriller called Natchez Burning. It’s about a mayor, his newspaper publisher wife and a determined reporter who are trying to uncover a series of gruesome murders of black people in the 1960’s. Some of the culprits are still around today, and they’ll do anything to keep their ugly secrets hidden. The author, Greg Iles, was born and bred in Mississippi and knows the place inside and out. Everything in this book rings true. At over 750 pages, Natchez Burning is long for a thriller, but the plot is so gripping that it kept me up night after night burning the midnight oil.
