Amazon is now developing original content and one of its shows is The Man in the High Castle. This is an alternative history story in which the Nazis and the Japanese won World War II and have divvied up the United States with a “neutral zone” in between (roughly defined by the Rocky Mountains).
Only the first two episodes are currently available. The first season will be posted in its entirety on November 20. The first season is available for free for Prime members. The first two episodes are available for free viewing this weekend for everyone (10/24-25).
The first two episodes are leaning in the direction of a pro-freedom story. Characters are being drawn into the Resistance. It’s also reassuring to hear lines about self-sacrifice and serving society coming out of the mouth of a villain (a Nazi commander) instead of from a supposed hero.
It will be interesting to see how the series evolves. Production values are very good. The series is based on a novel by Philip K. Dick.

I wanted to bump my original post about this series.
I’ve now watched the first season in its entirety.
This is a very well done series with high production values. It is tightly plotted and the writers know how to create conflict to drive drama. The acting is also very well done.
There continue to be signs of a pro-freedom viewpoint. At one point, a character is looking at art done by schoolchildren that focuses on serving society and the state. He comments something to the effect of “Can you believe that they make them draw this and call it art?”

I recently watched the first two seasons of “The Man in the High Castle” and agree with Dr. Cargan’s evaluation of the 1st season — especially the emphasis of the self-sacrificial, non-individualistic philosophies of both the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese. I also like the acting and the production style.
However, I found the 2nd season to be too fantastical, with people jumping between alternative realities (the one in which the Allies win and the one in which the Axis wins).
Not sure what the 3rd season, which is about to be released, will be like.
