One-line summary: In the third season of this sci-fi TV series, the villain brainwashes others to join into one collective organism, and expects sacrifice.

The script writer of the third season of this Marvel’s TV series must have been influenced by Ayn Rand.  That’s because the plot makes a clear statement against a collectivist philosophy and sacrifice.

In the show, the villain character called Hive states that he wants to build a society based on a “collectivist philosophy”. Those are the exact words. To do this, he spreads an addictive bacterium that makes those infected sway towards him and instantly agree with his ideology. Once “swayed”, a man refers to himself using “we”, rather than “I” and acts in the interest of Hive. Since the brainwashing occurs at a neuronal level, it is apparently impossible to resist with logical thought.

Hive then expects a complete sacrifice from such a member. For instance, he tells the character Daisy that he will need to drain all of her blood in order to fulfill hive’s goals.  To the viewer, this concretizes the evil of such philosophy.

I think this is a good sign that Objectivism is spreading in the culture.
