I posted this to my rep’s Facebook page. I would be grateful for any suggestions/criticism to improve the post. Thank you.
Healthcare, like food and shelter, are not rights provided by government. There is no right to healthcare, there is no right to food, there is no right to clothes or shelter or a car or any other good or service produced by man. You have the right to life, liberty and property. So having the government provide healthcare means that I and many hundreds of millions of people who do pay for their own healthcare, either directly or through a reduction in their wages, are being denied their rights by having to work for someone who can’t or won’t pay.
We fought a war to end slavery, now people just expect that people who work for a living should give a large portion of it away to pay for others who refuse to work or cheat the system. I don’t mind helping my fellow man but I resent being forced to. Our government is beyond what it needs to be to protect our Constitutionally-protected rights. The Founders would have scoffed at the notion of socialized medicine, as Madison did about asking the people of Georgia to pay for a canal in New York that they would never use.
Get rid of Obamacare and deregulate the insurance industry. “…the mass of mankind has not been born, with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god.” Amen Mr. Jefferson, it is about time to remove the saddle Progressives have burdened us with for the last 125 years. Enough already. Pay for your own healthcare and don’t burden me and I shall do the same.
