I just finished the other book on black markets that the late Objectivist Burgess Laughlin wrote, called Black Markets Around the World. This small book, published in 1981, is basically a selection of important news pieces reporting on black markets that emerge in areas of the world in which victimless crime laws abound. One of my favorite examples is bootleg potatoes in Canada.
I think the book (and Laughlin’s other on this topic Job Opportunities in the Black Market) is a really valuable source to find great examples of inane government policies worldwide. It also provides a good concretization of how people expend a lot of productive energy to come up with mechanisms to circumvent these policies.
