I have not yet watched the later Gilmore Girls series, so my comments are only about the original one. I liked how characters always followed their own priorities and rejected demands for altruistic sanctions of victimhood.
One example is Rory switching boyfriends, following her own ego. This reminded me of Dagny. The other example is Lorelei who didn’t wait around for Luke, and dated men who asked her out. Also, Lorelei refused to be needy and in a bad mood.
Who was the ideal match for Rory? I think it was Marty, the guy with whom she watched Duck Soup and whom she only saw as a friend. Logan was talented as Francisco D’Anconia, but he lacked focus. Jess was a rebel without a cause, borderline nihilistic. Dean couldn’t (and didn’t want to) keep up with Rory intellectually. But of the three, he was the most grounded in reality.
