Slander, libel, and blackmail: should they be illegal?

Slander (defamation in spoken form) and libel (written defamation) are not self-evidently forms of initiated force. Does defamation inf fact represent force? Is defamation a violation of rights or an exercise of the right to free speech? And what about blackmail? What if the blackmailer threatens to reveal something that is demonstrably true?
